Why value flax shives
Lignocellulosic biomass, a raw material of the future
Our collaboration
and its advantages
Flax shives is a lignocellulosic co-product, currently available, and insufficiently valued today.
Prevcarb is working on the creation of a biorefinery model using 100 tonnes/day of locally sourced biomass.
Our exchanges with you, local farmers and local cooperatives have led us to favor purchases directly from flax scutching. We discuss from the downstream phase of the project. Together we ensure its economic feasibility and anticipate logistical needs. This is so as not to disturb the existing chains. A significant part of the flax scutching being cooperatives, we aim to explain our project to farmers and their representatives in order to convince them of its interest for them.
Cellulose
Cellulose is a natural component of the cell wall of plants and trees.
Fibers from some plants have a very high cellulose content (cotton and ramie: >90%; jute, flax, and hemp: >60%), while fibers from trees (pine, spruce, fir, birch, poplar) are typically about 40-50% cellulose. The other major components of plant fibers are hemicellulose and lignin.
Hemicellulose
Hemicellulose is a biopolymer of the carbohydrate family, constitutive of the plant cell wall. It has a bridging role between cellulose fibers, but also with other matrix compounds.Lignin
Lignin is a key biopolymer in the structure of plants because it provides a chemical barrier to protect other parietal polymers.Farmer
